RV Insurance

RVs are an excellent way to enjoy life on the road. Whether you live in an RV full-time or have one to enjoy traveling across the US, RVs require the same insurance coverage that you would have for your car. Although there are minimum requirements required by law, when it comes to an RV, you might want to consider additional coverage to fully protect yourself, your valuables, and your passengers.

Types Of RV and Motar Homes Insurance

Types of RVs and Motorhomes Insurance

  • Class A Motorhome covers the majority of motorhomes owned. RVs in this classification are those that are a maximum of up to 45’
  • Class B/B+ Motorhome insurance is for compact homes that range from 18’ - 24.’ They typically come with better fuel economy than Class A
  • Class C Motorhomes are mid-sized RVs that fall between A & B Class Motorhomes. They have more storage and sleeping space with the addition of an overhead cabin over the driver’s seat
  • Travel Trailer insurance is for non-motorized vehicles for recreation which are towed by an SUV or truck
  • 5th Wheel insurance covers any space above a trailer hitch
  • Toy Hauler insurance is a trailer that you might use to transport horses, golf carts, ATVs, motorcycles, or any “toy” vehicles
  • Folding Trailer/Tent insurance covers things like pop-up campers

Additional Coverage to Consider

RV insurance is mandatory in South Carolina and carries the same minimum requirements as a vehicle. But some things are not covered that you might want to consider adding to your insurance package, such as:

  • Comprehensive insurance is warranted to repair or replace damage to your RV if you are at fault or for incidental coverage that exceeds or is not included in your minimum coverage
  • Collision insurance will cover anything that your liability insurance coverage will not related to property or medical expenses to other drivers if you are at fault. It will not cover the cost of your own damages, however
  • Underinsured Motorist insurance is a policy that you can add to pay for any medical or property damage in an accident where you are not at fault. Reasons you may want to add it include if you are hit by someone without insurance, or if your loss exceeds the other driver’s coverage minimum
